Privacy policy

Friendie is a personal relationship manager operated by Xavi Esteve ("Friendie", "we", "us"), available as a web app and as an Android app. This policy explains what personal data we handle, why, and what control you have. For privacy questions, contact [email protected].

1. Where your data is stored

You need a Friendie account to sign in to the app. The app keeps your people, notes, tasks and groups in your own browser or device storage so it opens quickly and keeps working offline, and it syncs a copy to our server while you are signed in (see section 2). Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app removes the copy on that device, and the synced copy remains on your account. Use the export feature in Settings to keep your own backup.

2. Data we collect when you create an account

• Account data: your name, email address, a hashed password and, optionally, your timezone.
• Synced content: if you sync, a copy of your Friendie data (people, notes, tasks, groups and their timestamps) is stored on our server so it can be merged and returned to your devices.
• Technical data: session and login records such as IP address, browser user agent and last activity time, used to keep you signed in and to protect against abuse.
• Messages: anything you send to us by email.

Your synced content may include personal data about other people (your contacts). You are responsible for having a lawful reason to keep it, for example keeping in touch with friends, family and professional contacts. Please do not store sensitive categories of data about others (such as health, political or religious information) unless you are sure you are allowed to.

3. Why we use your data and our legal basis

• To provide the service (syncing, sign-in, account management). Basis: performance of a contract.
• To keep the service secure and prevent abuse. Basis: legitimate interests.
• To respond to you and provide support. Basis: legitimate interests or contract.
• To meet legal obligations, such as tax records for paid plans. Basis: legal obligation.

We do not sell your data, share your synced content with advertisers, or use your synced content to train AI models. The Android app shows third-party ads, which work as described in section 5.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

This website uses only strictly necessary cookies (for example a session cookie) and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so no cookie banner is needed. Ads appear only in the Android app (section 5). The app uses local storage and a service worker cache on your device to work offline and keep you signed in. Fonts on this website are loaded from Bunny Fonts, a privacy-focused font service, which may receive your IP address when you load a page.

5. Advertising in the Android app

The Android app is free and shows ads through Google AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK). A short ad may appear after you mark a reminder done, at most once every 10 minutes and never when you open the app. The web app does not show ads.

To show, measure and secure ads, Google and its partners may collect data from your device such as your IP address (which gives an approximate location), your Android Advertising ID and other device identifiers, ad and app interactions, and diagnostic and crash information. This data goes to Google, which acts as an independent controller under Google's Privacy Policy. We do not give Google your account details, people, notes, tasks or groups.

In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, and in US states with similar laws, the app asks for your choice through Google's consent form before it requests any ad, and ads are not requested until you have made a choice that allows them. You can review or change that choice at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy settings (shown where the law requires it). You can also reset or delete your Advertising ID in your Android settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads). The legal basis for ad-related processing is your consent where consent is required, and otherwise our legitimate interest in funding the free service.

6. Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers needed to run Friendie (such as hosting and email delivery) under confidentiality and data protection terms, with Google for advertising in the Android app (section 5), and with authorities when legally required. If paid plans launch, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor and we will not store your full card details. If our business changes hands, your data may be transferred to the new owner under this same policy.

7. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Retention

We keep account and synced data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account data and your synced copy of your people, notes, tasks and groups straight away, except for limited records we must keep by law. Data held by Google for advertising is kept under Google's own policies. Backups are overwritten on a regular schedule. Security logs are kept only as long as needed to protect the service.

9. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing, and access to our servers is restricted. No system is completely secure, so please use a unique password and keep your own backups.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under the GDPR and California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export or restrict the use of your data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. You can export your data from Settings → Export data. To delete your account and all your synced data, open Settings → Danger zone, enter your current password and choose Delete account. If you cannot sign in, email us from the address on your account and we will delete it for you. We respond to requests within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

11. Children

Friendie is not intended for children under 16, and the Android app is listed for ages 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect children's data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. If changes are significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
